UFT Class Frequently Asked Questions

Is the UFT class helpful for experienced cleaners and business owners?

Yes. Upholstery cleaning can present very different challenges than cleaning synthetic wall-to-wall carpet. Even experienced carpet cleaners can benefit from learning more about natural fibers, blended fabrics, dyes, backings, delicate constructions, moisture sensitivity, and other conditions commonly encountered when cleaning upholstery.

For business owners, upholstery cleaning can also provide an additional service and revenue opportunity for both residential and commercial customers.

Will I learn how to clean natural and delicate fabrics?

Yes. The course discusses natural fibers and more challenging fabrics, including materials that can be sensitive to moisture, chemistry, agitation, or heat.

Students learn why fabrics containing fibers such as cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, wool, silk, and various blends may require different cleaning decisions than typical synthetic carpet. We also discuss potential problems such as browning, bleeding, shrinkage, texture distortion, and slow drying.

What will I learn in the IICRC UFT upholstery cleaning training course?

Students learn how to identify common natural and synthetic fibers, recognize different fabric constructions, test for colorfastness and other potential problems, select appropriate cleaning chemistry, control moisture, choose the correct cleaning method, remove spots and stains, and troubleshoot common upholstery cleaning challenges.

A major emphasis of this upholstery cleaning training is learning how to evaluate the entire piece before cleaning so you can make better decisions and reduce the risk of damage.
